Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
The Department of International Law and International Relations is looking for interested students with a good command of English who are eager to deal with questions of international law in detail. We offer in-depth training in international law, rhetoric, and presentation skills, as well as the opportunity to expand your soft skills in teamwork.
The final rounds of the International Law Moot Court Competition will take place in April in Toronto (USA) in front of internationally renowned professors and lawyers. The final will be held before judges of the International Court of Justice. The costs of this excursion are covered by the University of Vienna and sponsors. Participation in the Moot Court can be credited as two diploma seminars or as electives or foreign language certificate. Furthermore, it is possible for IREWI students to write their bachelor’s thesis within the framework of the Jessup.

The beginning of an international career
Participation in the Jessup International Law Moot Court is the first step towards an international career. Former participants now work as diplomats, in renowned law firms, transnational companies, international organisations or at universities.
Participants learn to act as state representatives in international dispute resolution proceedings. By participating in the Jessup, students learn to work as lawyers during their studies and gain international experience. This sets you apart from other law graduates looking for a job and from many applicants for postgraduate studies.
